I should note…he is 12 years old. I think I am gonna pay him to perform a video game music medley at an event.

Holy crap! I’m 16, been playing for 11 or 12 years, and I’m not THAT good! :O

  4. Math Person

wow… that’s amazing. How old is he? He looks around 8-9…dang…

  5. PurrNaK

I saw the kid at a piano and thought, Ahh another holiday song. HOLY CRAP I didn’t think I was going to hear THAT!!!.

    Wow.

  6. DKLarry

So is that the hungry dog?

  7. Math Person

the expressions on all the kids watching is priceless

  8. My name thou not required

    Talented kid right thar

  9. Bearbutt

I don’t think the little kids even know what’s going on – they’re all yammering on in the background.

My son plays the piano. Umm… sort of. I think this guy has a piano-playing brain re-route synapse thing going on.

  10. Alkey29

holy crap! how old is that kid? He’s playing the 3rd movement of Rach concerto no. 2. Pretty amazing for someone that age playing that piece.

  11. Trikorn

    Two words:
    Child. Prodigy.

  12. Owilde

Now that I look back on my life and feel completely useless.

That was fantastic. What you feeding those kids in Utah?
Now back to Guitar Hero ;o) so I can feel good about myself again.

  13. Masterwabbit

Yeah, well…well…I’ve had more girlfriends than this kid! Probably….for the sake of my ego…

  14. Doctorsoul

Hoooooly mother of a another brother…
PLaying Rach2 on a rickety community piano, imagine him sitting behind a nice grand piano! Awesome.
But seriously Scott, you should indoctrinate him more: where was the ELR-tune in a Rachmaninov style? :)

Do me a favor though: tell him to become a economist. He can thank me later hahaha.

  15. Bonnyface

Whoa. And no ego to go with it. Cool kid! I’d like to see his fingers dance on a keyboard trying to negotiate an instance or raid.

Now, about that guy with the shocked expression on his face…

  16. Zu

Dude he’s awesome BUUUT he should try less to be flashy and more to be accurate. I don’t know if the piano is out of tune but or if it’s him missing keys but there are a few errors there.

  17. Geektown

Holy freaking crap! That’s one heck of a talented kid.

  18. Simon

Wow that kid is a jedi master. That is one talented kid right there.

  19. Brad

I know I’ve heard that song before, but I can’t remember. What was that?

  20. Stuart Grimshaw

    wow, simply stunning!

I kept expecting a guy obscuring his face with a black cloak to creep by with a waxed up mustache, maybe having tied some blond haired damsel to some train tracks.

  21. Chris

    Holy crap.

  22. RealityIntern

He doesn’t look very happy. :(

    Great talent, though. Astounding.

  23. Melanie1001

OMFG! That kid – wow! Natural talent obviously! Whoa!

  24. Zeke

At 12 I could barely play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the piano. Today…. I can still barely play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the piano. The expression on your face is the same reaction I’d have Scott.

  25. Jonah

I used to play at that age, and was considered pretty good for my age group, but that kid is a million light years ahead of where I was ever at :P

  26. Lifeisaglitch

In the words of Keanu Reeves

    “WOAhh!

  27. Eric

Those were the days (though I was so anal-retentive about my playing that I would be kicking myself for the mistakes). “Prodigy” was the word used for me, too. I was 9. Got chicken pox for the piano recital. Never got to play, and I had worked on it for a month. I was 11, moved across two states a couple of weeks before another recital. In HS, I was invited to join an orchestra, but school was kicking my butt, and we moved again. (Lotsa moving.) In college, I played Jazz everywhere I went, but you know Jazz. Our kind is few and far between compared to classical and pop. In 1996, life beyond minimum wage started to intrude on my piano time. It quickly went from hours a day to less than an hour a week. Nowadays, my fingers just don’t work that way any more (though I can eek out a little Rhapsodie Hongroise [2 and 13 mainly] or Vince Gauraldi now and then).
Don’t let that happen to that guy. If he gets chicken pox, don’t keep him home. Getting all the other kids sick would be worth it (and it’s better for them at an early age anyway). Don’t move him around so much.

  28. Paper Effigy

That is inherent ability. I mean, dang, the kid’s a prodigy. (o_O)

  29. TomA

Too bad it wasn’t an electric guitar:P But that’s CRAZYYYYY!!!!!! just like asian people:)

  30. CDRaff

    Freaking awesome.

The closest I come to that is when I was young a family friend owned a restaurant with a piano that played itself. When we would go he would put it so that you could not tell that I was not playing. I was maybe 7 at the oldest and the look on peoples faces when they thought I was playing.

  31. Hadgi

That kid just blew a hole in my head! sheesh, that’s insane.

  32. Dan

One. I thought the heading was going to be generous because the kid is your neighbor. Hooooly jeeez. Not prepared for that. Twelve years old. Good lord. I wish I was that good at anything.

  33. Felix

Impressive, I hope he does this voluntarily.

The way he just walks away when he’s done reminds me of Horatio Caine :>

It’s nice to see some real musical talent rather than exper guitar hero players.

    Kid is amazing.

  38. Merazibah

This kid would leave the 1st chairs in Wind Ensemble beat.
This kid would leave my band director beat…well at least 2/3 of them

That child’s musical talents are off the charts!

His music was a fuel for my soul, the kids observing his playing were completely amazed!

    That boy is AMAZING!

  40. JorgenMan

+1 on the idea of paying him to play at an event. I can’t think of a better way to show a kid that his efforts are worthwhile and appreciated.

  41. Eric

Doh! Me walking down memory lane with “woulda, coulda, shoulda” forgot to say “Awesome. Absolutely awesome.” (I already said the “don’t ever stop”, but I think I kinda buried it in self-pity. I totally suck.) :(

  42. Josh

    That kid was dope!

    eric you suck! haha j/k

  43. Shaymus22

I shall express my feelings regarding the masterful way he made love to that instrument thusly:

    O.O

I was not prepared. I expected some crazy piano playing, but that’s the kind of stuff I would look up and listen to in my free time. Seriously…wow.

  44. Nevets815

    cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

  45. Xalver

Wow, just that was amazing for a child that age! Thanks for sharing Scott!

  47. Peter Griffin

Was it me or was he not playing any actual songs for the majority of the video? It seemed out of tune…almost like he was hitting the piano without knowing what he was playing…

  48. Bee

I would have enjoyed it more if he looked like he was enjoying himself, which he didn’t…was he forced to learn to play?
