A look at the challenge we have set as a family. EDIT: A few things about this I should clarify. Hot Chocolate stands as the ONLY sugar based “treat” we can indulge in, but ONLY once a week. Snacks are ok as long as they are not fried or oil based. Baked is good to go as a method to get lays into my piehole. All in all, its just an attempt to eat better and teach our kids to do the same.

Wow, that’s great if they can do it! I know I never could. Good luck to all of you.
But Nick was drinking hot chocolate at the beginning! Immediate fail! >.>
wow, money for eating healthy I wish my mom would of thought of that, I don’t think I could give up Dr Pepper for a year anyway…
365 dollars seems too little for doing that.. maybe for 2000 … but a year… come on that should be illegal to do that to a kid.. I have the same problem with fish and their eyes.. yet I don’t mind to eat a tasty steak..
I’m going to do this now. To bad i’m not going to get payed =(
A twitter follower a day would be nice though lol
Wow, that’s an impressive challenge. Not sure I could do it. Too many goodies out there!
I’d be curious to know exactly what the definition of “crap” is for this challenge… baked Cheetos are apparently OK, and so is hot cocoa… what isn’t OK, exactly?
Maybe I should have gone this route when it came to a 365 challenge for myself. I set a goal for myself at New Years to watch 365 movies this year. Yesterday’s film was number 7, Groundhog Day. Not sure what I’ll be watching tonight.
oh my god… no sweets for a year!? this is just crazy, i can’t believe you’d be willing to sacrifice the sweet, sweet sugar for health
Good for all of you! Oh, please send chips, sweets, etc. all to me!
Updated the iPod during lunch, but this entry didn’t update.
.
Will try again when I get home.
Good on you guys. I’m sure your teeth and health will thank you.
BUT THE SOUL WILL DIE
I just realized the flaw in your daughters decision to not take the challenge.
All the food in your home will be healthy, or at least whatever she doesn’t get herself.
Sounds pretty darn cool, but I do wonder. How are you going to enforce this? Trust? A battery of tests every day? Well It should be an interesting expirience at least.
Great idea. It’s really really healthy and gets rid of any skin problems, if anyone has any.
Oh wow. Good luck!
I’m off all caffeine… even things with just a little caffeine like most chocolate. (afectz me brane.) Been that way for a while. I still miss “sweet tea”. I’m trying to get more salad vegies in my diet, though.
Things our parents do can help us eat better. My mom has severe hypertension so everything we had was extremely sodium restrictive. It still confuses me how some people put salt on everything when I think most things already have enough (and many times, too much) salt. Then again, some things don’t stick: I used to eat menudo a lot as a kid. Now, I can’t stand the stuff.
This is going to offset the balance of the universe. Therefore, I am going to double my intake of sugar and grease.
.
The universe must be kept in balance. Glad to be of service.

But seriously, if my parents had offered me this, I would have said, “No. Now get me my sour cream lard chips.”
At the risk of sounding like a spammer, check out Ramiel Nagel’s book “Cure Tooth Decay.” I just received my copy, and so far it’s pretty fascinating. I gathered from his website and a couple message boards that great-grandma’s way of eating may have been right all along:
White flour and processed sugar throw our blood chemistry out of whack and cause our bodies to remove calcium from the bones to bring down the acidity, and tooth decay and obesity are side effects. The basic diet of bacon, eggs, organic grass-fed butter and whole milk, and a hit of cod liver oil every day is filling, and I’ve come to realize how much more I drank when I bought 1%–more sugar than fat.
Anyway, it looks like human teeth can slowly repair themselves as long as the diet is optimal, so I predict you won’t be visiting the dentist this year. (Try googling “secondary dentin.”)
Now I think I understand why these people who put bacon drippings on their Corn Flakes a century ago lived to their nineties, and why my grandmother didn’t get so far: she lived in the era when Crisco and C&H white sugar first hit the market, and yeah, her desserts were quite awesome… and numerous.
