Liquid cow baby FTW!
My brother just became a vegetarian a couple years ago too (through he still eats fish). I could/would never do it, but good luck to your daughter.
ROFL at this one! Short entry, but long on awesomeness!
Loved Ethan, the dry-mouthed Roger Rabbit kid.
.
I rarely eat beef cuz it makes me feel like I’ve eaten a brick. Would eat fish every day if I could. So I’m a fishtarian.
.
Not gonna get into the definitions of Vegetarian, Vegan, whatever, and hope nobody else does here either. Just relax & enjoy the humor!
Avocados are a fruit, not a vegetable, belonging to the genus Persea in the Lauraceae family.
@Retro- Did anyone say it was a vegetable? Being a vegetarian (don’t get me started on vegans) doesn’t mean only eating veggies, breads, fruits, etc are all part of a vegetarian diet, there’s just no meat and sometimes animal by-products.
eh i seen “Vegetarian Sounds” and thought vegetable.
eat whatever you want just dont tell me what to eat or say im bad cause i do what comes natural is what i always say.
Two of my three girls have tried being a vegetarian, and I never interjected my feelings unless they asked me (has to be their choice).
But since you asked… :p
I feel the majority of vegetarians are the same as people who drive hybrid cars.
They are trying to show off to everyone that they are better than the others (non-believers) because of this lifestyle they have.
Most vegetarians will have “exceptions” to their beliefs (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, are OK, just beef is bad… wha?) to allow for things they don’t want to give up.
Ah to have convictions with exceptions.
I like the way you are dealing with it Scott. You question them without attacking and you let them decide. You Rock!!!
In all fairness, vegitarians eat animal-based products such as milk and eggs. Just no meat. No animal-products at all would be vegan (Which is usually also where you find most of the crazy holier than thou veggies). If people want to not eat meat, fine by me. More meat for me.
I’m guessing the whole vegetarian thing will pass withing 6 months or so. And you should tell her to start taking the….what the hell were they…some vitamins, that you can only get from meat and that is pretty damn important for a body to function properly. B12 or something like that…
Also, a great recipe for her (if she eats fish). 2-3 avocados, cut the insides into cubes, add a frew drops of fresh lemon juice and shrimps. Delicious.
There are very good reasons to avoid eating beef (or consuming milk) besides humility and compassion. (or self-righteousness) The industry is at levels that have had several huge negative side effects. We simply eat too much beef and drink too much milk as a society and individuals. It is practical to reduce consumption of those products.
I still eat beef on occasion and drink milk in small quantities, but more often than not it’s organic. Of all meats, I don’t prefer beef, but I’m not about to turn it down.
I loved the “good luck on your quest” bit. Yea, I tried being a vegetarian. Not because of the animals, but more of an interest in the diet. Lets just say that I failed… horribly. Stupid meat and its deliciousness.
Obsidian would be so pleased
So let me get this straight…after a minute and 20 seconds of audio, we are arguing the merits of vegetarianism? I love you guys.
Vegetarianism has merits beyond diet. **To be successful**, one has to (first and foremost) care, think ahead, research, calculate, manage and be dedicated to the choice of diet. These are qualities we do want in people. Yes? Let me just say this before someone tries to spin it: This does not mean people who aren’t vegetarians don’t care, think ahead, ect. It just means that successful vgers likely do. Even those who aren’t “successful” (in terms of staying vger) gain insight into self management and awareness. It’s a good learning experience (at least, for those who do it for reasons other than status). I’m not vegetarian, but my choices by my logic are based on my experiences alone. I feel I gave a lot of thought to the idea before going my own way, but I can never claim to have vger experience. Yet, I’ll still make outsider observations.
Of course, it would probably help if I listened to the podcast. (Sorry. Heading out now… yes. I type that fast.)

Meats a bit bad tbh.
Thats all im saying xD
meat is nessicary
so are fruits and vegitbles
mushrooms on the other hand……… eww
Meat isn’t necessary, but it’s the best source of certain vitamins. You have to take care when going with a vegetarian diet.
In response to “meat.org” it doesn’t take into account many organic sources where they treat animals better. (not all organic sources treat animals well, admittedly) You don’t leave meat off your plate “for good” to care about where it’s coming from. Eating meat that comes from many these bad sources just isn’t good for your health.
Hey scott, as a longtime vegetarian/vegan, feel free to shoot me an email or w/e and I can send you some links if you would like. =) Good content as always.

raccoon boy strikes again.
I don’t care much about what people how people eat, in MY opinion i don’t see any reason why not to eat meat and in fact i think it is necessary to do, but like most times it is quality that matters. While i like fish i rarely eat it, its just (again its MY opinion) that the way fish is “harvested” went out of control.
If anyone doesn’t want to eat meat, why is up to them, i have no problem with it, for alot kids its seems to be a part of growing up i guess, but those people who run homepages like meat.org are just pathetic … its fantism i can’t stand, they can’t accept that people like to eat what they want and they try to convince them with very shallow arguements (i don’t want to justify such treatment to animals in any way, but thats what i meant with “quality” in the beginnig).
I just listened to this while snacking upon Beef Jerky.
I like things killed and grilled.
However, I do sympathize with vegetarians. It phases some people how hamburgers and hot dogs are made, and there’s the health aspect one needs to keep in mind. Un/Fortunately, I’m not in either of those groups.
“i don’t see any reason why not to eat meat”- I know this is your opinion, but i do not think you can really say there is “no reason not to eat meat.” Especially when painting with such a wide brush. I mean, for the sake of argument, let’s cut out the “it is a dead animal” factor. But, once you see the conditions they live in (seriously, visit a factory farm some day) can you really not have a problem with that? However, from what i read from the rest of your post, i got that you meant things like free-range meat, “the high test stuff,” which is the closest to vegetarian ok meat out there. Also, on a seperate note, yes, PETA can be crazy sometimes. Their people say dumb things and put on airs often. HOWEVER, there are a lot of REALLY nice people in PETA out there, who dont ask if you eat meat or not, they just want to see animals being treated ok. That is all.
That kid Ethan could totally be a Foley artist… and this meat/veg thing is getting kinda intense, careful, guys.
I expect Ethannoises to show up in future ELR podcasts…. they just have to.
The omnivore’s dilema indeed.
