App works great! Keep the diaries coming. Which app is it?

  2. Deacon

    Yes, which app is it?

  3. Rowan

Good diary, sound quality was not the best. What ever you were using before was much better.

  4. adam h

    Scott,
You are exactly right. No matter who won…. whats done is done. Lets give him a fair shake and be optimistic rather than the opposite.

  5. Veko

It has only been three days and I’m already tired of listening to people whine about how that socialist, Obama, has won. Not too long until the terrorists take over, or so idiots are claiming.

Not to say I’m a person of one-sided views. I hate Bush as much as any other person, but man I’m tired of hearing people bitch about him too.

  6. KLMay

Sound is great. Keep up the Diaries.

Cynical? Yeah I am a little (OK more than a little… and I don’t like being that way. I have not always been). You’re almost as old as I am Scott, so is it that you are naive, or just hopeful beyond belief that for once, a Politian is going to actually do what they say after they get elected?

I think I know what you’re trying to say. Don’t assume that the worst is going to happen, give Obama (and the Liberals) a chance and see if they can straighten things out. Be hopeful…
Do I want Obama to fail? No way. If he fails we all fail.

The problem is, I’m afraid he is going to do exactly what he has said he wants to do.
    - Raise taxes (Bush’s tax cuts expire in 2010… that WILL raise your taxes, plus anything else he adds to it)
    - Redistribute wealth (if you don’t think he is talking about your wealth, you’re kidding yourself).
    - Reduce the military (Look at what Putin is doing? Look at how happy Iran and Venezuela are about Obama… this scares me)
    - “Fairness Doctrine” – Good-bye free speech
    - Socialized Healthcare – Why pay for my own healthcare when I can get my neighbors to pay for it. And the Government does such a good job running Trains, and Airports and Social Security… I’m sure they will do as well with Healthcare.

And that is without thinking about it too hard. Give me 30 minutes and I could fill another half page with promises he made that send chills down my back.

    BUT…
He IS the Man now. I’m not going to be screaming for Impeachment. He gets to try to Walk the Walk.
You can be sure I’m going to be watching. I don’t want him to fail. I want the economy to straighten out on his watch. I want to win the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on his watch and then bring the troops home. If he can do that with honor, I’ll be happy to give him the credit.

  7. KLMay

    Sorry.. real quick
@Veko – “Not to say I’m a person of one-sided views. I hate Bush as much as any other person”
I love it. That is hilarious!!
    OK.. now I’ll shut-up

  8. crosscut

Ahhhh…. How I miss our chats from the road, good to hear you again Scott.

I agree in that, let’s now move on and give the President elect the benefit of the doubt. We all know there is not much he can do with just his signature, our government has a checks and balance system.

Render unto Ceaser what is his and render unto God what is HIS…or something like that.

The old recording device did have a little better quality, but this works well to.

  9. Lifeisaglitch

Assuming the worst and doing your best arent opposits… But yeah i know what you mean.

  10. Will

The app sounds good. I hope you do more of the diaries, because it is one of my favorite podcasts. It’s sort of like taking a drive and listening to a friend tell you about their day. Good times.

  11. Animockery

I am so glad you said that. I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. I get to work and all these guys were all thinking that Obama was the same as every politician out there and that he was not going to hold true to anything. These guys saying this were the same guys that were talking about how great it would be to have Obama as President not two days before. Any way it bugged me to no end. Me? I am hopeful and look forward to seeing what he does and will also hold him to his convictions.

  12. Ceroth

I agree with KLMay but I am so cynical right now it unbelievable. I don’t trust these people that are about to be installed in Washington. I know they will fail and I know it will hurt my country in ways that cannot be imagined. My cynicism says that Obama will be Carter times 10 or worse and right now I believe my cynicism over any attempts to tell me differently. I detest John McCain and what he did. My paranoia says that he threw this election just so he could hurt the Republican Party and conservatives. He will now go back to the Senate to work with his Democrat overlords and will enjoy hurting us all. I have been a Republican all my life except for the short time of Operation Chaos, but right now I am switching my affiliation to Independent until they grow a pair and return to conservative principles. Fert on the whole lot of them.

  13. Bearbutt

Wow. If you’re that cynical, the therapist is that way. Seriously.

I thought Bush was a bad choice from day one, but listen to this: I said ok, I think you’re a war-mongering monkey-brained idiot, but you’ve been elected, so now’s your chance to prove me wrong. I support your every attempt to do so. Make it so. Give it your all. Give it your best shot. Prove me wrong, Bush. He didn’t.

I thought Obama was an excellent choice from day one, but listen to this: I’m saying ok, I think you’re a problem solver, and intelligent man, but now that you’ve been elected, you’d better prove me right. I’ll support your every attempt to do so. Make it so. Give it your all. Give it your best shot. Prove me right, Obama. We’ll see.

Love or hate the guys in the office, I give them both the same fair chance.

  14. Bearbutt

Oh and the recording app was ok. Easy to tell it has a low sampling rate. Some distortion. Not great, but a whole bunch better than nothing!

  15. Ceroth

I will never give Obama the chance. I don’t trust him. I will never trust him. Looking at some of the nutroot blogs, you figure the left would be gracious in victory but they are just as nasty, vicious, evil as they have been the last 8 years. I won’t give them the time of day. I won’t give Obama the time of day and don’t ever condescend to me and tell me to get psychological help.

  16. Ceroth

I’m done with this. I won’t comment on this again. I don’t want to be banned. I like this site too much. Don’t bother to comment on my last post. I won’t check it. It might get me seeing red again and I might say something I will regret. Sorry.

  17. wonder6oy

    Good post KLMay.

Scott, I think you’re going to find that most people who are skeptical of Barack Obama, when you really look at their reasons for being so, are quite justified in that skepticism. Based on his history (what he’s actually DONE vs. what he’s SAID), he is the farthest thing from being any king of party “unifier” and is EXTREMELY partisan in his politics. If you agree with those politics, then I’m sure you have great reason to be thrilled, but for the rest of the 47% of us who don’t, our hopes for reduced spending, small government, and unrestricted free will of the people are fading to desperate levels.

Of course we’re willing to “give him a chance”.

But so far, his Democratically controlled congress (for the last 2 years) has been announcing radical spending plans for further “economic stimulus” minus accountability, massive government expansion, and now he himself has appointed Rahm Emanuel, the most hardcore radical mean-spirited Liberal Democrat possible AND the Director of Freddie Mac during the year 2000 (amidst the scandalous years) , as his White House Chief Of Staff.

(for those who might want to read up on this…)

We wand him to succeed OF COURSE! … but not at the expense of completely sacrificing those views we hold dearest to our hearts.

I sincerely hope he becomes one of our greatest presidents; it would be such an incredible legacy to add to his elections already historic significance. But if that does not end up being the case, I quietly hope he does not end up breaking things beyond repair.

I always find that the best way to be is open mindedly critical. Accept what people say to you but at the same time don’t be scared to criticise as criticism and questioning is something that makes us human.

One of the better commentaries I’ve seen and along the same lines…

  20. TheBlunderbuss

The old recorder was better. This one is sufficient.

  21. HECTORtheTURTLE

I totally agree with KLMay. I couldn’t say it any better if I tried. I would consider myself skeptical, not cynical. I refuse to buy into the negativity that so many conservatives are displaying. I voted for McCain, but he was never “my guy.” As a conservative, however, Obama will be my next president, and he will have my respect, support, & prayers. I will be watching closely, because that is the job of all citizens, and I will speak out when I disagree. I will also affirm and commend the points that I think are handled well. I did the same for Bush. I have my concerns about Obama, but I’m willing to concede that I may be completely wrong & this could be a great time for our nation and an important season of rebuilding our standing with the global community.

  22. bezdomnoi

Who knew there were so many conservative nuts in Scott’s fanbase. Just WOW
