Today’s Comic: “…gone like that.”

About this comic

Feeling a little morbid with this one, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Those poor, poor bugs. Here one second, and then gone like that.

EDIT: Funny how you sometimes end up doing things that others have done, without ever actually seeing it. In this case, two years ago.

I’ll be the first to read something into this: Life is fragile. We are but bugs on the road of life. Live it as best you can!

  2. Grinder Surprise says:

Also: don’t stop and talk to people in the middle of the frickin’ road !

  3. i am a jawboner says:

    FERT

  4. Craazy says:

Loved it. This is one of those I said to my wife, “Hey! You gotta see this!”

  5. Fredrik says:

    Hahahahahaha loved that one XD

  6. ScottC says:

Damn you bugs! Love Bug season is ending here in Louisianna. There are giant clouds of these bugs that do nothing but mate and get splatted on your car. It gets so bad that you can’t see out of your window anymore and have to pull over to clean your window off and dry heave.

Oh yeah, their guts also eat through your paint, like aliens.

  7. Blackwood says:

    Scotts seem to be depressed…?

Wow, so breathtakingly gorouges!I am speechless by your work every time i visit your amazing blog. You’re truly an artist and should be damn proud of that!Maybe it’s a bit rude (sometimes i am, sorry..) but i was wondering, since you’ve made some gorouges drawings of a few blogger girls, if it’s possible or if you want to make one of me, maybe some time when you’re not too busy..?I don’t post a lot of pictures of me on my blog, but i surely have some of course. So sorry if this is too rude to ask or if you get like thousands of these proposals(?) every day, but i was just wondering, because i would be SO honoured to have a drawing of me done by you.<3Mila.

  8. Savage says:

Good thing those weren’t cicadas. Those things are monsters when you smack them with your car.

  9. Alkey29 says:

I know in California when traveling up to San Francisco from L.A on the 5 theres this huge stretch of road where u run into bugs. Its gross; many bugs hitting your windshield and grill. Eww nasty.

  10. Jake says:

By “since college”, he means like, 6-8 hours ago, right? What with the lifespan being so short and all…

  11. Jeff says:

Am I the only one who can’t see the whole comic? Page came up with black borders on the side, and everything on the page pushed into a while column. The who last panel is covered up for me.

  12. Scott says:

Jeff: What browser are you using? Everything looks good in the latest IE, FireFox, Safari, and Opera for me.

  13. I’d say anything that isn’t IE… ;-)

Crickets in central Texas were fun. Hundreds of them all over the dumpsters behind my store. They’re about an inch and a half long, and one went up my pants leg one night—just about scared the shit outta me. Behind the knee tends to get fast attention, heh heh.

    Hey Scott, nice classic!

  14. mercator says:

Those bugs look like my 401K… Squish…

  15. Baps says:

    Jeff

    Have you tried zooming out?

Mine didn’t look right on firefox either.

View > Zoom > Zoom out

  16. Bobacus says:

Ok Scott, that is one of the best uses of timing in your comic I have seen in awhile. Great job! I laughed. (hard)

  17. jawbonerforlife says:

this is outrageous i am in the act of being out raged if you will look at my comment (third down) it says FERT. that is not what i said LAME referring to the B man which i think Scott knows of what i am trying to say is that Scott is denying me of my second amendment right.

    Oh, and FERT!

  18. Fred says:

What’s the first thing that goes through a bug’s mind when he hits your windscreen?

    His bum.

  19. Tonesbroke2 says:

Nice details. I enjoyed the little blobby red bits.

  20. Eric says:

I didn’t think anyone could get more morbid than Gary Larson. (That guy runs the gamut of hilariously accurate to hideously true.)

Fred: It’s what’s the _last_ thing… (Of course, over-analysis reveals that a big that’s hit sideways may never have its anus encounter its brain.)

As for this comic, I can’t help but giggle at the imagined squish/splat sound (which is a little like “squroinch”) and laugh at the “Ew” (which I imagine comes from some child in the back seat who’s had their only thin view of the windshield covered with futile socialness as drivers and adults see that kind of thing all the time and would only comment “damn bugs” if the bug was big enough or had filled in the last visible glass that the failing windshield wipers had yet to smear).

That last (addendum) lasted a lot longer than I anticipated.

Anyway: If you don’t know whether to laugh or cry, always laugh.

  21. mercator says:

Mosquitoes deserve no less. I hates em!

  22. jawbonerforlife says:

    FEEEEEEERRRRTTTTT!

  23. Lazarus says:

It’s worse when your riding a moped or motorcycle. My helmet visor has met Bugs, Bees, Bumblebees, big ‘what the hell is that’ bugs, a butterfly, and I’ve had to duck to avoid a suicidal Bird. I’ve also had a nut fall from a tree across the road, blow across and conk my helmet as I rode past.

  24. DrJ says:

Flat out AWESOME. Well played sir.

  25. Jeff says:

I have sbc/yahoo internet, so just use whatever it pulls up. Guess I could try just opening IE.

  26. Animockery says:

Scott you are truely the modern day Gary Larson of the internet. That last two Comics were very very funny.

  27. Bearbutt says:

How can you ever know that what you come up with has never been thought of before by anyone. Ever.

    ?

  28. jawbonerforlife says:

    damn you Scott Johnson

  29. GoofyMonkey says:

“Jeff: What browser are you using? Everything looks good in the latest IE, FireFox, Safari, and Opera for me.”

@Scott: I know this isn’t the place for technical issues but I saw the above post… The link buttons seem to want to re-organize themselves and move when the window is scaled down as does the entire page. Rather than stopping at a point and popping a scroll bar up… Percentage value instead of absolute?
