Today’s Comic: “Close to Home…”

About this comic

Just thinking about all these celeb deaths lately, and felt like doing the morbid thing. Enjoy.

The liberal inside is yelling, “Boooo!”

    The little kid is snickering.

    Good job!

  2. Sokkratez says:

Haha, she fell asleep while he was talking to her because she was bored! Old people are fun..ny…

  3. Clive says:

I don’t really think any more celebrities are dying lately than before. They are just so easily forgotten that when a new one happens we don’t remember the ones that happened more than a few months ago.

That said: depressing comic πŸ™ Poor old guy.

  4. Rezlow says:

    I love it!

You should do a miscarriage joke now, maybe Yahtzee will make fun of you.

  5. Brian D. says:

I like the open-endedness of it. You don’t know whether she’s sleeping or she died during his dialog.

Next thing you know, someone really famous will pass away this weekend or next week and it’ll just continue this snowball of elderly celeb deaths.

  6. Lifeisaglitch says:

I laughed felt bad, read Rezlows comment and laughed again.

  7. Rezlow says:

    And we all laughed together.

Seriously though, I hate to say it… but I’m afraid that your awareness of celebrity mortalities is a symptom of your age, Scott. My father used to point out the deaths of “famous” people to me all the time growing up and I just never took notice.

But with instant access to information, and our pick of celebrities aging right along with us… πŸ™ It’s like watching friends age and die really.

  8. Will says:

Nice one dude. But where is the old crippled dog with no teeth?

  9. Valek says:

by Rezlows standard…im old too…OMG IM OLD NUUUUUUUUUUU

lol im only 27 but yeah it seems old by some peoples posts!!

people gotta croak, regardless if they are celebs or not, they gotta die!!!

you’re gonna die…we’re gonna die, sooner or later….sooner

    mwuahhahahahahahahah *puts away scythe*

there was no spoon!! *waves hand all jedi like*

I’m not going to go on one of those “I’m so angry about the comic that I’m never going to read it again” rants, but this comic made me sad … It doesn’t make me sad about thinking about celebrity deaths (many of the deaths have been older people, after all), but it makes me think about if it were my grandparents sitting there, talking, and one of them maybe died during it. I didn’t like this comic at all!

And I only have been very sad about two of the deaths, Heath Ledger (because he’s, well, my age, and an awesome actor) and George Carlin.

  11. Scott says:

    Like I said. Morbid.

  12. Lesley says:

Aren’t you prophetic. But I guess this one you could see coming…

  13. Valek says:

psst gimme teh winning lotto numbers mr prophet scott!!

  14. capsuletz says:

Like your comic, as always. Btw, Scott, typo! “Have you see the new lately?” Should be “seen”? No biggie! πŸ™‚

  15. vladtusai8a says:

    Morbid indeed…

My Granny just passed away in a similar manner (on my grandpa’s b-day about a month ago). I will not rant neither since I see where Mr. Johnson comes from. It’s just a weird coincidence. If anything makes me realize that death it is just one of those things that will happen.

For what I see, It’s not that celebrities are dying more often is just that this year happened to people that were really famous and some of them still on their prime or working constantly(Ledger & Carlin are good examples)

BTW one of the Bozo clowns also died during this last couple of days

At any rate, Keep up with the good work, Scott!!!

  16. Me says:

Yeah well in the last year I’ve been to 13 funerals. I’m going a bit loopy.

  17. Me says:

Actually I was invited to 13 but stopped around number 8 or 9. There’s just so much you can take.

  18. McClain142 says:

You know … maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I took this as a commentary on our obsession with celebrities, and how we all get worked up when famous people die, but don’t take notice when a “normal” person passes. We take life for granted until someone with an Oscar dies, and then suddenly death is front page news. But that same newspaper has dozens of obits every day. They may not be famous, but every day we lose a grandma, a father, a soldier, a friend.

It made me a little sad. Bravo.

  19. Valek says:

hey capsuletz since you’re going to be a grammar nazi, you should do all of it. “Have you seen the news lately?” Not “Have you see the new lately?” as you seen it, Scott forgot to put the n in seen, sure, but the grammar nazi himself fudged up even worse, you said

Like your comic, as always. Btw, Scott, typo! β€œHave you see the new lately?” Should be β€œseen”? No biggie! πŸ™‚

wheres is the S on news that was in the comic….hmm??

hhahah, sorry capsule, i had to pick on ya. as i do most grammar nazis πŸ™‚

  20. mercator says:

I think I agree that this year is no different in terms of the number of people who’s time was up, but it does seem this year that there are more people within the sphere of interest of audiences like ours. Carlin, Ledger, the comic guy, etc.

Jesse Helms and Cyd Charisse aren’t exactly in my area of attention. I know who each are, but I never cared much for their work… Sorry to lump you in with Jesse, Cyd.

  21. capsuletz says:

Valek. Not a grammar nazi, just didn’t want the comic to look bad πŸ™‚

  22. capsuletz says:

Oh ^^ and I guess I got myself bit in the butt for that typo.

  23. Chuck says:

wow.. cracked up despite the morbidity. we need stuff like this!

  24. Valek says:

*pokes capsuletz* GRAMMAR NAZI!!! *runs away*

  25. Wungy says:

Jeez Scott, are you really going to miss Jesse Helms that much?

  26. LaVaGoD says:

Does he care that she died? For crying out loud he has already turned his back on her!

  27. Matt D. says:

I found this comic after hearing the WoW podcast, which is decent. This comic series however, is very bad, sorry.

  28. LaVaGoD says:

Sorry you don’t like it, but I don’t know if I would say it’s very bad. That is some what harsh.
