Stand and deliver

About this comic

SOPA sucks. It really does. It’s the kind that, if passed, means that Peter Jackson can call the attorney general and tell him that I made a joke about Gandalf, and they can take me down without any due process. That’s basically how that law can work if it’s allowed to happen.

Don’t let it. It can’t happen. It’s bad for EVERYONE, even those that THINK they support it.

    Amen Scott, Amen!

Everyone: Please contact your Representative and Senators to VOTE NO on SOPA/PIPA!

  2. Bilbo says:

Does this mean SOPA/PIPA will take the internet down with it?

    • Mr. Belvedere says:

Why yes, because the internet only lives in The United States…

If SOPA/PIP(A) pass, it will eventually result in a lot of different visible internets. An Asian one, a European one and yours. All with their own kind of Big Brother who’s watching it.

Je1 tenho quase tudo bem trabalhado no meu ce9rebro.

  3. Amen aswell Scott! We must stop SOPA & The New World Order. They are trying to keep the wool over your eyes but people are starting to wake up! We can’t stop fighting!

  4. Jonesman64 says:

man.. this bill sounds so crazy.. if someone is crazy enough.. they could bring the ban hammer down on a major news sight even..
at least that is how it sounds to me… I can just picture all the major studios and what not just realizing how much power they have, and then just start ban hammering each other into oblivion.

  5. Brad says:

    brilliant comic

  6. Yetimon says:

Sir Peter wouldn’t do such a terrible thing – he’s a Kiwi, and is not part of the corrupt hollywood machine. Love the comic anyway.

  7. Cynn says:

I feel sorry for the people who support SOPA, it’s basically just terrible publicity for them.
I mean, things that would come under full violation of the act would be Wikipedia, Youtube, 4chan, and possibly even things like Google and Facebook for use of copyright material in their searches and links.
If SOPA passes, there will be revolts within the digital universe, and if they’re silenced they’ll turn into physical ones.
Keep up the great work Scott, I still can’t get enough of TMS, both Instances, and your comics.
    Love the comic though.

  8. Devils Advocate says:

Didn’t Gandalf also die in this scene?

  9. Jornie says:

Great illustration why SOPA would be such a bad thing.

  10. Vake Xeacons says:

Say it loud! Say it proud! SOPA will be destroyed!
Couldn’t have put it better myself, Scott.

  11. Mad-Bassist says:

Fortunately we have Senator Wyden here in Oregon, so telling him to vote “no” is preaching to the pastor. (He’s had a great reputation here at least since the eighties.) Still, I added my name to the EFF roster.

Those bills shouldn’t have even lived this long, as they seem to violate the constitution. Let’s hope they don’t get shoved through the system like the infamous monopoly the FCC has on the airwaves, as heard in George Carlin’s rant.

Oh yeah, I love the comic. Don’t stop parodying Pac-Man, Batman, Mario, et cetera. Hat Hair Forever!

  12. Jacob says:

So Scott when is your new Droid coming? I have to assume you are purging your life of Apple products since they support SOPA

  13. LostSoul says:

The twisted side of me wants to see these two bills pass JUST for the people who supported them to get completely knocked off the grid by these very same bills they thought were going to help them “make money”. And can you imagine all the money they’ll waste on frivilous IP and Copyright lawsuits that will INEVITABLY arise from the gaping maws of SOPA/PIPA? It’s like playing with fire…in an oil refinery…with leaking gas…surrounded by TNT….there’s probably nukes involved too?

Then there’s also the fun of using copyrights on the internet meme of the week to troll various businesses into oblivion. Wait no, check that. Forget I said anything…

Oh the collateral damage with these two bills will/could (because let’s face it, human stupidity has no limits) be a most epic blunder … possibly one of the greatest in human history!

  14. Kevin says:

After hearing so much about this controversy, I read the actual bill. Wow. I got scared by the fact that it doesn’t mention a trial or conviction needed to seize a domain. The fact that the attorney general can do all of this. To me, its not about Not wanting to stop piracy; but about giving broad powers to the wrong people. Such broad power shouldn’t be in anyones hands without the appropriate checks & balances. STOP this bill everyone!

  15. Silver says:

The funny thing about SOPA… it’s a swedish word for swipe and/or mess ๐Ÿ˜€

  16. Mad-Bassist says:

I have a feeling many of the businesses on the list of bill supporters are wishing they weren’t on it, much like the politicians who are backing away from it. That list on the opencongress site reads like a boycott guide.

    It’s too bad the American Federation of Musicians is thereโ€”I used to think joining them would be a good idea. I fully expect our first album will be posted by someone as soon as it’s finished this summer, which will only prepare the way for us to sell T-shirts if we ever get overseas. American metal bands rarely make enough money to quit working day jobs, but then we’re mostly doing this for fun. Beer and gas money does help, though. ~~:-}

  17. Hannah says:

Let’s just hope Sopa doesn’t drag the internet down into the abyss with it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Donnerberg says:

    It did not pass.

  19. Khaal says:

Hey I uploaded the image to a fun pictures website, I hope you don’t mind. I left the mark saying this website’s direction and your copyright and name, so I hope you don’t mind. Anyway I try to be as good as possible notifying it. Tell me if for some reason it bothers you, I’ll erase it.

  20. applejuicefool says:

But that’s clearly *not* Gandalf, that’s the great wizard “Internet”. Clearly labeled. Facing the bat-winged monster SOPA.

  21. Columbus says:

typically not much of an activist, I have siengd a prior petition and contacted my representatives, blogged about it, and posted on twitter and facebook about it. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has some good
