About this comic
Got to thinking during the Google i/o conference that we have a bit of a chat / social app bubble happening. They added to the pile yesterday. I don’t have so much a problem with it as I do a little worry about people’s brand loyalties getting in the way of talking. 🙂
Whatever happened to just talking to each other?
Good one, Scott!
I’m feeling my age of forty-eight when I hear about these things. I have a history with IRC chatting and later IMs, but I resisted cellphones for a long time. Used to think texting was a dumb idea until I saw it’s practicality in use.
However, as a metal guy, it wouldn’t feel right using “twitter” and “tweets” in a sentence. Heh heh.
Same here. Didn’t get a smart phone until they where standard. These apps are supposed to be bringing people together, but all they’re doing is driving them apart.
P.S. Scott, love the Angry Bird reference. Another pointless app. After years of claiming games rot your brain, then parents and adults start playing these half-conceived money-grabs. Hypocrites.
Neither of them have Google+
This is why we need RCS implemented. It’s a standard, like SMS, except capable of far more. It’s not really good for anyone to have isolated islands or chat. Except of course the ISP’s will no doubt charge fantasy money just for moving a little chat data, historically SMS pricing has been criminal.
“Is the world fundamentally a better place because of science and technology? We shop at home, we surf the Web… at the same time, we feel emptier, lonelier and more cut off from each other than at any other time in human history…” -Palmer Joss, Contact (1997)
