Black Friday in the States is the biggest shopping day of the year. There are very good prices on all sorts products. It’s called Black Friday because in Philadelphia, law enforcement had started to use the name in the 1960′s to describe the kind of day they were going to have with all the heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It caught on from there and later some knob decided he’d try to change the meaning to something more positive, and the Red/Black story was born. Apparently, retailers operate at a loss – in the red – for most of the year (not true) and on Black Friday they finally start to turn a profit – in the black – and so decide that it’s time to slash prices, which is absurd.
