lego-house

As part of his BBC series James May’s Toy Stories, he plans to build a two-storey house in the middle of Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking.

May will be hosting a building day on Saturday, August 1, when members of the public can help him with the challenge.

The millions of bricks came all the way from the Czech Republic. The house will be life-size with a staircase, toilet and shower.

Yikes! That is a lot of legos!

    “Dorking.” Heh.

I’d pay Guy Ritchie five bucks to make a movie named, “Dorking.”

Where else would anyone build a full-scale house out of Legos?

    He’s my new hero.

Man your fingers would get sore after a while. and the structural pieces used to make the second floor would have to be some rugged

James May, aka Captain Slow, is a legend! Hes a Top Gear presenter over here in England, and even entered (and won an award) with the first plasticine garden at the chelsea flower show! Alternative TV for the thinking and humorus generation!!

Glad I’m not the only Brit that follows this blog :)

was just about to mention the plasticine garden myself, pics and details here:

    That is awesome!
I wonder if they will have links to it off of final gear?

I wonder how is he going to pull that off… I remember Mythbusters building a mere ball around 2 meters in diameter and they were commenting on how they nearly emptied the US stock of legos for it.

I love completely random projects like these, I wonder if they’ll be able to pull it off.

Engineering & planning will lead to success. This will be super expensive since a real brick is 50 cents and a solid brick-sized block of legos is prolly about $10.
    .
As small as Legos are, one could build just about anything, as though molding it out of clay.

I’ve seen that mythbusters-episode as well.
Maybe the americans aren’t as into legos as the rest of the world ?
they also made solid bricks and I’d imagine that you would not need to build structures that way if you want them to be stop them from becoming too heavy.

the ‘ball’ also fell apart as soon as it started moving …

then again … doesn’t the famous legoland-park (in Denmark?) have attractions built out of lego ? (unless they fake it )

I bet that it can’t be done, if they build it out of nothing but Lego. I don’t think Lego can support itself when made into a structure of that size, especially if it is not a solid block. If they use other materials to reinforce the structure and only use lego to coat the structure (making it look like it is made all of lego) it could probably work. I would love to watch someone try, though.

It all depends on what kind of house they’re going to build and how good their engineering is.

I’m not sure, but I’d assume the lego blocks they use in Legoland themeparks are glued together.

I hope they don’t run out of red ones….never enough red ones. ;)

If found out about this just yesterday and Dorking is actually local to me so I plan on going to help out. Then maybe take a tour of the Wineyard and have a few drinks…
