Love the hairy potter
Could you link us to the full comic?
Ask and ye shall receive.
Indeed! Thanks.
Wow. The Nickelback mashup was awesome.
Great Show. Sadly the new movie lacks a lot of the epic parts that made the book great. They probably could have made the last 2 books in 4 movies total as there was so much missed in Half Blood Prince.
This was the most adapted movie out of all the series so far. More reconstruction of the story took place in this one than any other movie they’ve made. Some of the reconstruction was a much better play for the scene, but other parts they dropped really take some of the heart out of the movie. However I did watch a midnight opener.. so I’ll give it another view to absorb what I may have missed. Tom Felton and Emma Watson were awesome in this one and had great performances, Rupert and Dan were the comedic value more or less this time.
BTW I predict Deathly Hallows will be split where “Ron drops the emotional bomb on Harry and Hermione and leaves them”, by far the best place.
The one thing they need to tune, is the timing in scenes. The last few movies have been crazy.. dialogue is moving so fast, it doesn’t necessarily flow like a normal conversation would, so it feels a bit awkward.
/sigh I had more line breaks in there I swear.. :s
Please Please Please Post that Nickleback mash up on its own,
I am from Canada and like Nickleback but i know they are very formulaic generic rock. Theory of a Deadman, who Nickleback discovered have the exact same sound
There are several Britney Spears song that are the same tune but different lyrics
I agree that some people are completely crazy about being against Harry Potter. When I worked at a movie rental store. I had a discussion with a lady who didn’t want their kids to see Nanny McPhee because it had a ‘witch-like’ character who did magic. I quickly pointed out to her that she had rented Mary Poppins for her kids in her history, and how was those two movies different? She commented that it was ok because it was made by Disney. /facepalm
order of the phoenix was a collection of pretty good scenes that seemed to have no coherence
my favorite was Goblet of Fire.
I am embarassed that you drew a picture of me.
Why on Earth did I take the name Bearbutt. /facepalm
Great show guys. I laughed a lot. I think they will split the last movie after the dragon scene. That seems like a perfect spot.
Where did you find your audio books, and how much did they cost?
It’s crazy when people fear Harry Potter. But when Brian criticized the Golden Compass, it was just as silly. Don’t get me wrong, I like Brian, but it looks like the southern mentality got better out of him this time, and he lost some points in my eyes.
Philip Pullman’s trilogy, His Dark Materials, is a great read. Maybe I’m a fanboy, but to reject it only because of his religious views is crazy. So what the guy is an atheist? So was Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ernest Hemingway, Oscar Wilde and many others. And they were also vocal about it.
Really, what difference does it make?
I would listen to this, but I know its going to be full of unapologetic or fore-worn spoilers so you get -1 (at least) listeners this week.
If I’m wrong, someone please let me know
hey i am a 15 year old Scottish kid whom lived in England for most of my life and i just want to say even in the upper class Ejaculation is not used in the context in which you are speaking of and is used in the context you implied
there were no spoilers.
Not a single spoiler Tristan.
CURSE YOU SCOTT JOHNSON!!!
CURSE YOU SCOTT JOHNSON!!! I have gone several peaceful years without even thinking about Nickleback and now, after listening to the latest ELR, I woke up this morning with one of their songs stuck in my head! }:-(
That said, I really enjoyed the episode. Tom is one of my absolute favorite voices in podcasting and anytime you can bring him on things can only be better for it. Now if you could only get a few other BOLers to co-host things would be even better. Perhaps a space themed episode with Brian Cooley.
Moonwalker, too add to that wonderful list, Douglas Noel Adams
Awesome thanks Scott, now you get +1 listeners xD
It’s funny you mention the nickleback and play that particular set. There is a show here in Toronto called The History of New Music with Alan Cross. It’s an amazing show where Alan Cross talks about a lot of bands that you and I love and reveals the history that most of us don’t even know.
One particular episoide had to do with ripping off other artists and so he would play the rippee, followed by the ripper. That one particular segment he reveals that Nickleback, has indeed, ripped themselves off.
An excellent bit.
Quote of the day:
Date rape chocolate
Hagrid’s brother in “Order of the Phoenix” looks exactly like Alfred E. Neuman.
@MoonWalker
I debated on whether I should say anything about The Golden Compass…but I thought I might as well play the devil’s advocate (that’s weird) and give a take from the other side.
I generally don’t care what religious or non-religious background someone is from and rarely let that influence my decision of whether to watch a movie or read a book.
But in this case. CNN reported that there was some hubbub around the authors intentions of this book before the movie came out. I know…I don’t read CNN anymore…but I did that year…and no I don’t watch FOX either.
Well I’m not a one source kind of guy. I like to fact check before I make decisions. I especially find interviews with the author the most compelling. Where better to find the facts than straight from the source.
Since this has been several years ago I can not point you to the specific interviews I read at the time. But it was my impression at the time the author wanted to write a fantasy book that would show the foolishness of religion and following a god.
So I had no desire to go see a movie that was in direct conflict with my beliefs. I made a personal decision that it was not something I was interested in. I did NOT write an angry letter to the author. I did NOT boycott the studios who released the movie. I did NOT demand books to be burned at the library. I simply made a choice not to see the movie or read the books.
And that was the point behind the conversation we were having on the show.
I love you anyway MoonWalker
oh yeah…I forgot to mention. Would you criticize an atheist if he didn’t want to go see The Passion Of The Christ?
Which by the way. I never saw.
I love you too, so I forgive you
Anyway, sorry for the delayed response, but I was on vacation. I’d still encourage you to read Pullman’s trilogy. The movie was pretty crappy, but the books are great. Do they ridicule faith? I don’t think so, but they make you think, and that’s never a bad thing.
PS.
If an atheist said: “I won’t see the Passion of the Christ, because it’s a religious movie”, yes I would criticize him. There are valid reasons not to watch the Passion, and this one just isn’t.
Scott your KILLING me here
No update for a month and a half? My morning routine is in shambles, SHAMBLES I TELL YOU!!!
