If I could somehow sum up how I feel about the creative process in all the things I do, I wouldn’t, because he does it for me.

    WOW.
That’s so amazing. Loved it, blew me away, I really like the ending, so true.
    Adam Savage rules.

  2. Christopher

Scott, Thank you for sharing this Adam Savage piece. It is quite amazing and sparked some new ideas in me.

    Chris

  3. Adam H

Incredible determination and greatest ending ever.

  4. Final

Good lord, I cannot identify with that apparently unquenchable desire for perfection. THAT is dedication. I personally would have stopped at the third google image result.

  5. Michael M

Normally my ADD kicks in at about 3 minutes but this was nothing short of amazing. I was completely absorbed in Adam’s presentation. It made my day. Thanks Scott!

  6. Raingod

That was pretty damn fantastic. And I think it pretty much sums up the creative process for me as well.

  7. Jack

Wowee, i was expecting him to move on to another project, but he really really REALLY goes all the way lol

  8. Ben

The ending made me smile so big. Just such a cool way of looking at the idea of aiming for perfection. Are we ever actually truly convinced we’ll obtain it, or is it simply enough to bask in the effort and dream. Thanks for sharing this!

This rings true for me as a musician. I strive for a perfect performance every time, but the inevitable flaws reveal the emotion, humanity, and beauty. The art is in the PROCESS, not the product.

  10. Dan

watch the Mike Rowe one too. he talks hard work and other things

  11. prion

this might be the only post you will get from a person who is absolutely NOT creative at all. I think I now know why. I can’t take pleasure in the process, if I’m going to create something, I want it to be DONE.

  12. JELLYBALLS

Adam Savage is awesome. I always thought he was a bit annoying, on mythbusters, but the more I watched and the more I realized the adam ia very intelligent man. also Very talented.

  13. Rezlow

I’m always both sad and happy to see the conclusion of a creative work… bitter-sweet by definition.

  14. Matthew

    Scott,
Dan is right, you should really watch Mike Rowe’s TED talk as well.

I always knew that Adam Savage was kind of obsessive when it came to Mythbusters but this shows that mania to a very fine point.

Makes everything he does just that much more impressive to imagine the time and process that he put into that work.

  15. Zacko

Wow, that was awesome! I loved the end of it.

  16. Emilio

Great talk. I loved every bit of it, and the ending really resonated. As a filmmaker, I love the process of filming a movie, but I hate when we wrap on the last day because the journey is over.

  17. John C.

Wow that was so cool….(he talked really, really fast!).

  18. Pontus

    wow… just wow ._.
he really made me want to listen more, awesome speach!

  19. Lifeisaglitch

I feel a little less crazy myself now having seen this.

    Great talk.

  20. JaFO

    What’s that saying ?
“It’s not your destination, but how you get there that matters most” ?

    Great find :)

  21. Blackwood

Also for me as German this was hard to understand but I really was interesting – this Mtyh-Bust-Guy is a freak but hell he is good in this. Awesome.

  22. Icesnake Frostfyre

Life is a journey, not a destination.

Death is the ultimate destination. Let’s not get in so much of a hurry that we don’t enjoy the journey.

  23. windman

I need just a fraction of that guys energy. Great clip Scott.

  24. Shaymus22

That end line…and the whole thing…wow. I spent 4 hours learning HLSL, and this recharged me. Thanks for posting this, Scott.

  25. Joshua S. Hill

I agree, that end line is just breathtaking, honestly. It’s very much like the saying; “Art is never completed, simply abandoned.”

  26. Naigewron

He did much of the same talk at HOPE, and it’s up on YouTube. Here’s a playlist for it:

  27. Naigewron

Bah, I messed up the link so that it starts on the wrong video. You’ll get the idea :)

  28. Lillis

Wow. We need more people like this. At first glance, it might seen totally pointless, but you never know when such a creative person will direct their obsessions at something that as a sideeffect will lead to an improvement on some manufacturing process or a cool new material…

  29. Ado

I just made a creative projects folder.

    This was so awesome.

  30. Dewey

I was in the second row at HOPE! The talk was awesome. Adam also showed a slow motion clip of him drunk on a treadmill. Awesome stuff.

  31. Oli - icrew

That talk was awesome, he’s a very talented man.
On a side note TED is without doubt my favourite website in the world. With so much “trash” TV and pointless celebrity out there it’s refreshing to be able to listen to passionate, intelligent and interesting people talk.

  32. Sithinious

    That man is my hero.

  33. Zu

Shit that guy has serious OCD. It’s what makes him great really.

I on the other hand have to earn my living instead of doing what I want. Humbug

  34. JaFO

That’s not humbug … as Mike Rowe says in his TED-presentation : the world needs people that are willing to do the ‘dirty’ jobs

Besides, given that he (used to/still does) something with special effects (or whatever the heck he does when he’s not mythbusting) I think his ‘creative projects’-folder is just a more organised version of a scrapbook to keep interesting thoughts/ideas.
